U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced on Oct. 9 that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is extending flexibilities to allow free meals to continue to be available to all children under the age of 18 throughout the entire 2020-2021 school year, even through June 30, 2021. This unprecedented move is part of USDA’s unwavering commitment to ensuring all children across America have access to nutritious food as the nation recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The free meals are for the student's first complete meal – any second meals, extra entrees, or extra items will be charged to the student's meal account. Students will only be allowed to do this if they have money in their account.*** All account balances will remain in the student's account. Negative balances should be paid as soon as possible.
This waiver is for student meals only. All staff/adult meals will remain at $2.55 for breakfast and $3.85 for lunch.
