My name is Cyndi Walls.I want to welcome you and your child to first-grade at Thrall Elementary! I am super excited to be starting my eighth year as a Thrall tiger and my fourth year teaching first-grade! First-grade is an exciting time and I love seeing how much children grow during this very important foundation year!
A little about me; I am originally from Conyers, Georgia. I have a younger brother and sister and I am the proud aunt of one niece and five nephews, all of whom still reside in Georgia.
I am a graduate of Texas State University. I have a Bachelor of Science with a major in Interdisciplinary Studies (a fancy term for teaching). I am certified to teach early-childhood through sixth grade generalist and ESL.
Professionally, I have worked with children for over twenty years. I began my career by teaching prekindergarten at a private school. Later, I went on to work in the public schools where I spent two years as a librarian assistant at a middle school in Georgia and eight years as a special education paraprofessional in elementary and middle school campuses in Arizona and Texas. I have also been a nanny for several families in Arizona and in Texas. My experiences have allowed me to work with children of all ages and abilities and I can honestly say that I have enjoyed them all.
I am married to my husband Jeff, whom I met while I was living in Arizona. We married in April of 2000 and I moved to Texas to be with him. I have a stepson Jordan who is currently serving in the Navy and has just returned stateside from Japan where he served on the George Washington. He is currently stationed at the NAS in Lamoore, California with his wife Anne. I have a stepdaughter Jennifer who resides with her husband in Tyler. My husband's family has blessed us with eleven nieces and nephews and five great nieces and nephews.
Jeff and I have two horses (Dusty and Slick), two longhorns (Valiant and Drego), two donkeys (Oatis and Eyore), three dogs (Molly, Trooper and Ringo) and three cats (Cleo, Miss Ellie and Scalawag). During our free time we enjoy riding our horses, country and western music, dancing, traveling, antique shopping, being involved with church activities, and what we refer to as "front porch therapy".
Reading and reading comprehension are fundamental this year in preparing your child for future success in all academic areas. As your child's teacher, I plan to be your partner in your child's education.
I love teaching and working with children. I believe that teaching is more than a job and I love knowing that I get to make a difference each and every day I step into the classroom. My goal is for your child to have a happy and successful school year while developing a love of learning.
I promise that I will love your children and will do my best to meet them where they are and take them where they need to be.
Thank you for entrusting me with your most valuable possession.
